Arts

Overview

Life is more than the utilitarian!  Beauty, music, presentation, story – all are important to the Creator… and seem important to His Image Bearers too.  So, from earliest elementary school BEBS emphasizes the Arts alongside the Core curriculum.

Some exposure to music and art is required all the way through elementary.  Beginning in kindergarten, all children are taught music theory and the basics of representational art.  They also learn music to perform in various concerts during the year.  During lower elementary school a child may choose to get involved in stringed instruments.  At fifth grade, if a student is not involved in strings, he is required to select a band instrument with an eye toward entering middle school band.

During middle and high schools art and music continue to be offered, but now as an elective.  In representational art students develop skills in watercolor, photography, sketching, etc.  Strings, band, and choir are offered throughout.  During the year students have opportunities to compete at two state-wide and one nation-wide music festival.  And there are major performances at the end of both semesters.

Theater is also offered during second semester for the middle and high schools.  In 2020, BEBS invested $500,000+ to upgrade stage and theater equipment.  The Shows Go On!
